December 2012 Bestsellers Lists

Yep. It’s still Quiet Houses, topping both lists. Our latest ebook offering, dark and gritty Lovecraftian horror novel Resurrection Child by Lee Pletzers, is snapping at its heels in the number two slot. It will be interesting to see if the paperback edition of Resurrection Child will be a contender for the Top 5 paperbacks when it comes out (soon, treebook fans, very soon). With the exception of The Mighty Quinn, both lists are dominated by non-American authors/editors (Lee Pletzers is a New Zealander by birth and currently resides in Japan). World horror is truly alive and well at DCP.

  2. Resurrection Child by Lee Pletzers
  3. Phobophobia edited by Dean M. Drinkel
  4. The Caretakers by Adrian Chamberlin
  5. The Mighty Quinn by Paula Stiles

The paperback bestsellers list looks similar, with the surprise addition of one of our older titles, short story collection Ghosts Can Bleed, at number 2. The most excellent Rayne Hall has been promoting her latest short story showcase, Undead: Ten Tales of Zombies, which contains a story by Ghosts Can Bleed author Tracie McBride (that would be me!), and it has had the intended effect of raising awareness and sales of her other work. Thanks, Rayne!

November 2012 Bestsellers Lists

I’m going to pretend for a moment that the tardiness of posting November’s lists was deliberate; if you’re looking for a last-minute Christmas gift for your horror fiction connoisseur, then what better than a recommendation from other horror fiction connoisseurs?

For the fifth month in a row, our bestselling ebook is Quiet Houses. Perhaps it was “Love a British Author” month, because the number two and three slots also go to British authors or editors. And readers’ love of all things zombie is reflected in the sales of David Youngquist’s Snareville series (hurry up with Snareville III already, Dave and Ade!).

For our paperbacks, it’s more of the same in the top two slots. Let It Bleed re-enters the Top 5 after a brief hiatus in October. DCP founding member Sylvia Shults will soon be releasing her highly anticipated non-fiction book Fractured Spirits, and it appears that the interest in this title has flowed onto her other offerings, as she takes out the remaining two spots.

Ten ebooks for $10 – it’s Black Friday!

We may not have a bricks-and-mortar retail store, but we can still participate in the frenzy that is Black Friday (I say “frenzy” because I live in Australia and view the American Black Friday tradition with some bemusement – although we do have Boxing Day sales, which I suspect is something similar).

We’re offering 10 ebooks for $10, which I confess is slightly false advertising; we’ve chosen ten of our ebook titles to be discounted to a mere 99 cents each, so if you buy all ten, you’ll only pay US$9.90, not $10.  And you don’t have to purchase all ten to avail yourself of these special prices. Although we’ll be happy if you do, as I am sure you will be with your bargains.

The titles we’ve chosen have been our bestselling titles so far this year. And in alphabetical order, they are:

1. A Gentle Hell by Autumn Christian
2. Along the Splintered Path by A.J. Brown *
3. Blood and Fire by Carrie Clevenger and Nerine Dorman
4.Campfire Chillers by Dave Jeffery *
5.Critique by Daniel I. Russell *
6. The Drunk and the Dead by Andy Taylor
7. Phobophobia edited by Dean M. Drinkel *
8. Quiet Houses by Simon Kurt Unsworth *
9. Slander Hall by Matthew Tait
10.Werewolves, Apocalypses and Genetic Mutations, Oh My! by Suzanne Robb

(* = also currently available in paperback)

You’re also spoiled for choice for retail sites from which to purchase these top quality dark fiction reads; all of the above ebooks can be downloaded from Amazon, Barnes & NobleDrive Thru Fiction and Kobo (the latter takes a little longer than the other sites to update their prices – feel free to nag…I mean, gently encourage them if your choice of discount title is still showing the usual pricing).

The sale runs until November 30, and it starts…now!

October 2012 Bestsellers lists

Is anyone surprised to see Quiet Houses topping the bestselling ebooks list again? I’m not. Equally unsurprising is our #2 slot, our brand new horror comedy The Mighty Quinn by Paula R. Stiles. Critics’ favourite Inkarna takes out #3. Our Fearless Leader, David Youngquist, has been very active recently with signings and appearances, which is reflected in the re-emergence of Snareville in both the ebook and paperback charts, and September’s #3 reappears in the latest list at #5.

And remember, gentle (and not so gentle) readers – it’s not all about the mighty Amazon; customers wanting to purchase Dark Continents ebooks can also get  them on Barnes & Noble, Kobo and Drive Thru Fiction.

  4. Snareville by David Youngquist
  5. Transformation by Rab Swannock Fulton

As previously mentioned, David’s been out and about meeting his fans in person in his local Illinois bookstores, to such an extent that he has toppled Quiet Houses from the #1 spot. Snareville fans can look forward to the third instalment in the series in 2013, which promises to be especially exciting as it is co-written by fellow Dark Continents board member Adrian Chamberlin (while you’re waiting, you might want to familiarise yourself with Ade’s other works, such as #5 on the list below). Daniel Russell has also been busy with signings in Western Australia; those customers who recently purchased The Collector can now also order his novella Critique for a tiny $6.99 plus postage.
